We are excited to announce our upcoming expedition. Our new unit, Constructing Cambridge, will begin in the middle of January. Through this unit, students will be answering two very important questions: How was Cambridge developed? and What makes Cambridge unique?
To accomplish this, students in both Third Grade classrooms will create an ABC Field Guide to Cambridge. The information the students gather through research will be organized under a letter of the alphabet. (For example, information about Harvard will be on the “H” page.) Their field guide will contain biographies of important Cantabridgians, significant buildings and sites in Cambridge, important dates, and other interesting information.
Our unit of study, which will last from mid-January through mid-April, will include a variety of activities. Students will do field work in different neighborhoods of Cambridge, they will have contact with the Cambridge Historical Commission, and learn about people who have made an impact on Cambridge.
We are sending this letter as an invitation to join us in this expedition. On the back of this letter are some areas in which we could use your help or expertise. Please let us know if you are able to help with any of these. Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
The Third Grade Team
