Friday, January 7

Hello Friends and Families!

It has been a busy week in room 108 as we prepare for our production on Friday.  Today your child received a copy of his or her script as well as an invitation for the show.  Each child also has a list of costume ideas.  This week we brainstormed the different items that each child might need for a costume.  Some students offered to check at home to see if they had a costume part for someone.  Ask your child to show you the list and what they should bring in.  Please send these items in no later than Wednesday so we can be sure to gather any missing parts!

The show will begin at 8:30 but feel free to come at 8:15 for coffee and bagels.

For the production, here is what we need help with:
1.  Families to bring bagels and coffee for before the show.
2.  Volunteers to help set up our stage Thursday, January 14th.  We will rearrange furniture and will need some tools to hang things.  This will begin at about 3:00.

If you are interested in helping with food or set-up, please contact me, Zazy, or Judy.

In Math we are continuing our unit called "Perimeter, Angles, and Area."  The students spent the week finding the perimeter of different objects and becoming familiar with different measurement tools.  Next week we will measure area.  Students will build "tetrominoes."  Tetrominoes are geometric shapes contained of 4 squares.  (If you have played Tetris you will have seen different tetrominoes!)  Then, we will learn to use tetrominoes to find area, to learn vocabulary such as flip, rotate, and slide.

This week I sent home a letter for you regarding Homework.  This letter explains the purpose behind homework in Room 108, some guidelines and helpful hints to completing homework, and a letter about our current math unit.  If you did not receive the letter please let me know.

We did not have share this week but it will resume again next week.  Our theme for the next three weeks is Favorite Places in Cambridge, to go along with our upcoming unit.  Students may bring in an object, picture, or tell a story for their share.  The Share Schedule for next week is below.

Monday: Maia
Tuesday: Hersh and Evan
Wednesday: Samuel M. and Owen
Thursday: Ashiyana and Tommy

Sincerely,
Meg
