Hello Friends and Families!
Thanks to all who came to our show this morning! It was a hit and the kids were so proud of their work. It was nice to have a full house and we all felt supported and loved. There are many, many thanks in order. First, as I mentioned at the show, to Judy (Simon's mom) for helping set up the room after school yesterday. Thanks also to Elisabeth and Josh Kanner (Hersh's parents) for bringing coffee and bagels, to Zazy and Georges (Joey's parents) for bringing bagels and brioche, Henok (Mackda's dad) for bringing bagels, Wendy (Rachel's mom) for bringing delicious homemade bread, and Alison (Tommy's mom) for bringing fruit. Also a BIG thanks to all the families who brought extra costumes and props.
There is never a moment to waste in Room 108 so we will hit the ground running on Tuesday with our Constructing Cambridge unit. We are thrilled to have Kathy Greeley working in our room to support our work in this unit which encompasses reading, writing, and social studies. (I regret that I didn't introduce Kathy today at the show but hopefully some of you had a chance to meet her!) Next week we will introduce the new unit and the various aspects of our project. Our project for this unit is to create an ABC field guide to Cambridge. So next week we will learn to take notes, talk about Cambridge, and look at guide books and other ABC books.
In Reading Workshop we will support our learning of Constructing Cambridge by studying biographies. This work will begin the following week due to the winter concert. Next week we will spend time reading independently and making sure our library is stocked for the new unit.
In Math we are continuing our unit called "Perimeter, Angles, and Area." The students spent this week measuring the area of an object in square units. We will continue this work next week as we determine the area of shapes that are not perfect rectangles. Students will learn to measure parts of square units.
Our theme for share this week is still Favorite Places in Cambridge, to go along with our Constructing Cambridge unit. Students may bring in an object, picture, or tell a story for their share. The Share Schedule for next week is below. The students who missed share this week due to the snow day will make up their time next week.
Monday: Rachel and Sam
Tuesday: Kesing and Aviva
Wednesday: Dasani
Thursday: Joey and Mackda
WE NEED SNACK! We ran out of snack this week and if you are heading to the grocery store this weekend we could use some more. Class favorites seem to be: popcorn, pretzels, goldfish, and chips.
I hope you all have a lovely three-day weekend. See you on Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Meg
