Homework
Did you miss homework this week? Well...our homework has ended! Please be sure your child is reading 20-30 minutes every night. Practicing multiplication facts is also great help. You can also have your child tell you their story they have been working on. Be sure to give them some advice, what worked well and what they could to to improve.
End of the Year
Save the date! June 17 will be our end of the year celebration. The event will start at 8:15 and will end around 9:15. Judy and Zazy will be in touch with what we need and I will update you on more details as they come.
Thank You!
A big thanks to Judy (Simon's mom) and Alison (Tommy's mom) for coming along to our trip to the Planetarium. The show was amazing! We definitely got a work out walking (and running!) to the T. Ask your child what we learned...you will be amazed!
Our Learning
This week we finished learning the content of our Science unit with our trip to the Planetarium. The students are now taking those concepts and creating a dance to represent them. For example, a spin move in salsa can represent the movement of the earth and the sun. Or the wave in break dancing can represent the phases of the moon. Not sure how? Ask your students! After learning how to create dance moves that represent concepts, students have also learned how to choreograph a dance. We talked about planning in 8 counts, or fractions of 8 counts, to go along with the music. It has been exhilarating to watch our science come to life!In Reading and Writing we have continued our study of folk tales. This week we read creation stories and fractured fairy tales. Creation stories are stories from different cultures explaining how the world was created. Fractured fairy tales take a traditional fairy tale and add a twist. We have also been hard at work learning how to tell our stories. We started the week talking about how to use our voice. We learned about our diaphragm and how to project, as well as how to change our voice to enhance the story. We also learned how to use our hands and our body to engage our audience. Ask your child to tell you their story!
In Math we continued our unit on adding and subtracting multiples of 100. We also talked about adding numbers with multiple addends...and what the word addends means! An addend is any number you add to another number. For example, in the mathematical expression 45 + 34 + 24, there are 3 addends. Next week we will dive into our unit on 3-D shapes which will be a fun way to end our year in math!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Meg
