Hello Friends and Families!
This was another busy week in Room 108. Here are some updates.
Thank You!
A BIG thank you to Judy (Simon's mom) for bringing in lots of healthy snacks for our MCAS day this past Wednesday!
Our Learning
We took the MCAS this past Wednesday and I am so proud of how hard the class worked. Students said after the test that they felt comfortable and they used a lot of the strategies we talked about. Our next MCAS is MONDAY, March 28.
This week we started Reading Workshop with MCAS practice and ended with our biography unit. Each student is now reading a biography independently. We will continue this genre study next week. Students are learning to identify important information as they read. We are learning about a lot of interesting people!
In Writing Workshop and Social Studies, we continued writing our field guide entries. Students interviewed each other to gather information. Some students used the computers to research specific information regarding a location or fun facts. Next week we will revise and edit our entries. Our deadline is coming soon and we have a lot of work to do!! The publishing party is scheduled for April 14th. More details will come later.
In Math we finished our unit on Multiplication and Division. As I mentioned before, please work with students for 5 minutes every night on multiplication facts. In the meantime, 108 is moving on to a new unit called, "Stories, Tables and Graphs." Students will look at line plots, patterns they notice, and complex number patterns. I will send home a note about the new math unit on Monday.
Don't forget, our next MCAS is Monday morning! Students may bring gum to chew. They should get a good night's rest and have a healthy breakfast!
Sincerely,
Meg
