Hello Friends and Families!
Here are the updates from this week.
Here are the updates from this week.
We Need...
Next week we will start our new science unit. We need 20 paper plates and 20 straws. If you can donate any of these please let me know.
Homework
There will be a slight change in the homework for the rest of the year. As part of our new Science unit, students will be asked to fill in a moon journal. We will end our Word Study homework for the rest of the year to adjust for this change, and to allow us extra time to dedicate to our Science unit.

End of the Year
Save the date! June 16 will be our end of the year celebration. The event will start at 8:15 and will end around 9:15. Judy and Zazy will be in touch with what we need and I will update you on more details as they come.
Field Trip
We are looking into taking a trip to the Planetarium as part of our upcoming Science unit. The dates available are limited and it looks like June 8th is the best day for us to make the trip. We will leave school at 11:30 and be back around 2:00. After I have confirmed the date I will send information about cost and official times.
Our Learning
This week we wrapped up our Mysteries of Science unit. The students completed two mystery "tests" to earn their detective badges. One test was to discovery the secret of the detective badges. On Monday we will award badges and certificates in a private ceremony. Next week we will also wrap up our mystery book clubs and our poetry unit. For the rest of the year we will work on a unit called East o' the Sun, West o' the Moon. This unit will tie together Reading, Writing, and Science. Students will learn about the relationships between the sun, moon, and earth in Science. In Reading, we will explore folktales and fables, with a focus on how other cultures have explained the relationship between these celestial bodies. In Writing, we will learn how to tell our own stories, just like those that have been passed down through the generations. Students will learn how to select a story, how to learn the story, and how to add their own flare. All of our hard work will be shared at the end of the year celebration.
In Math we will wrap up our fraction unit next week. In the remaining weeks of school we will look at bigger numbers and we will have a short week about 3D shapes. I will send more information about these remaining units next week with the homework.
It is hard to believe that we only have 5 more weeks! Check the important dates section for what is coming up in the next few weeks.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Meg
